little tree gallery is pleased to present the work of Maria Forde in her ambitious solo show entitled A Strange 31 Years.  Ms. Forde will display 32 oil paintings loosely based on each year of her life.  In addition to the paintings, Ms. Forde will have low priced, take-away zines.  Part social commentary and part autobiography, A Strange 31 Years will evoke memories and incite new ones.

Maria Forde's paintings possess the power of a good short story.  A Strange 31 Years covers the gallery walls with pop culture and personal history.  Nostalgic and honest, each piece is all at once subtle and loaded, showcasing Ms. Forde's keen perception.  Candid about her process, Ms. Forde said, “"I couldn't find order or make sense of anything…then I decided it's ok to be confused."” A Strange 31 Years includes a monkey attack in Ito, Japan; 3-D movies in the comfort of your own home; the retirement of Bjorn Borg; kindergarten; Ted Bundy captured; and single serving condiments.  A Strange 31 Years is a beacon of Americana. 

Among Maria Forde's recent honors and accomplishments, Ms. Forde was the featured artist from May’'05 thru August’'05 in the Art on Market Street Poster Series sponsored by the San Francisco Arts Commission; and has created illustrations for the San Francisco Chronicle, among others.  Through Ms. Forde's continued success in numerous exhibitions, projects, and publications in and around San Francisco, she is now currently in the process of creating a book of her drawings.  Ms. Forde received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
