little tree gallery is pleased to present the work of Chad Moore in his solo show entitled Dematerialization Cartography. Presenting painting, drawing and sculpture, Mr. Moore interprets a multitude of forms, transforming the benign into arresting works of energy.

The marquee piece of the show is an oil painting that stretches 3’ x 6’. Improvised Exploding Landscape is Mr. Moore’s reading of majestic features of the earth. Far from a traditional landscape painting, this abstract piece reflects a pre-historic, malleable earth. Arresting and sublime, Mr. Moore’s vision is full of vibrant colors that direct one’s eyes to wander through the piece. Contrasting the undulating scenery, Mr. Moore’s skilled technique with the paintbrush leaves behind a smooth canvas. Mr. Moore’s powerful vision of our topography leaves much to interpretation.

Continuing with the theme of mapping of our world, Mr. Moore ventures into the everyday urban. Between Pigeons and Pavement is part of a series of charcoal drawings representative of the contact point between the two. Hurried and frantic, the movement is unmistakable and the representation striking. Contrary to the many strokes, each piece is calming as the monochromatic grey palette brings tranquility to the frenzy.

Finally, Mr. Moore takes unassuming trash heaps and turns them into dynamic sculptures with accents of color and deception. Using toys and found material, these pieces map the story of our market economy with a wallop to the traditional materials used in Mr. Moore’s painting and drawing. In one particular piece, a giant robot’s stomach is ripped open to reveal an array of products exploding from the wound while a kitten attacks its jugular. Discerning and queerly endearing, these pieces round out a versatile and tight show.

Chad Moore has shown in the Bay Area and New York. Mr. Moore received his MFA in painting at San Francisco Art Institute and his undergraduate from the University of Georgia. He currently resides in San Francisco.
