little tree gallery
is pleased to present the work of Maggie Foster and Tim Sullivan in
their eagerly anticipated collaborative show entitled we'd both
be better off. The pair will show new photos, video, and
sculpture.
Maggie Foster and
Tim Sullivan capture a morbid California in a series of unique works,
maintaining a clean, baroque aesthetic. Over a flat-screen television
monitor is a hand-colored portrait of Jayne Mansfield with her eyes
cut out and replaced with a video loop of the sky. Ms. Foster and Mr.
Sullivan will show an ambitious, interactive piece that includes a cell
phone, matches, a motion-detector, and a sculpture of the state of California
in vanity light bulbs, which, with a phone, can be activated from virtually
anywhere. Among other pieces, rock posters of California inmates
executed in 2005 round out this intriguing show.
Ms. Foster received
the Bernard Osher Foundation Scholarship for Study at The San Francisco
Art Institute. Her video work has shown nationally and internationally
in such locals as Poland, Columbia and Norway. She will receive
her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute this year.
Mr. Sullivan is
currently featured in the California Biennial at the Orange County Museum.
His solo shows include Lucky Tackle in Oakland, San Francisco Arts Commission
Gallery in San Francisco, and Kino Lab in Warsaw, Poland. Mr.
Sullivan received his BA from Evergreen State College and his MFA from
the San Francisco Art Institute.
